Update and Appeal for Help

Hey Folks

Just a quick note to let you know that Laura and Adam of the in2securITy team have welcomed their newest family member this week - a healthy baby girl.

As you can imagine, they have a lot to get sorted in the next few weeks and so won't have as much time to write new content.

This leaves the core team slightly low on numbers. This will have the following impact on in2securITy services:

* Reduced content (fewer or no new articles)
* Slower responses to emails

Battle of the Spammers

Seems its the season of spam accounts again *sigh*

If you have tried to legitimately sign up for an account in the last 3 days and haven't been authorised... we suspect you are an evil robot and have chosen to ignore you for the greater good of humanity.

If this is a mistake - email the Team at info@in2security.org.nz with a nice, well worded description of why you are a lovely human being and why you would like an in2security account.... You must send this from the email account you registered with and include the username you chose!

Extra points awarded for sending flowers or chocolates.

Mentoring Switch-a-Roo

Its been a while since the mentoring scheme launched and I think its about time we switched things about a bit to keep it fresh.

There is currently a small waiting list of people looking for a mentor so lets do all we can to help them out

A letter to Existing Mentor Scheme Members

Hi, How you doing?

You never write, you never call....Let's catch up!

Internship Wrap Up

The 2012-2013 in2securITy internship programme drew to a close last week so lets have a look at what happened.

This years scheme was the first time anything like an internship programme had been attempted for the IT security profession in New Zealand. Somethings worked well and lessons were learned.

Overall we had 6 placements on offer for the first year (lower than we would have liked but more on that later). For these posts we had 11 applicants. Application standards were high and all deciding who got what role was more challenging than we expected.

Penetration Testing As Is and Was

Penetration testing has been an evolving specialism.

A story of a future past

Once upon a time, it was the domain of the hacker-turned-good(ish). Penetration testing was a visceral, offensive space. This was the type of service that only a small section of businesses would even know about, let alone engage to review their systems.

Welcome to the Job Board

Finding a new job can be tough... but finding your first job can be terrifying.

Here at in2securITy we want to make it easier to find information security roles for job seekers of all abilities...

So, as promised, welcome to the in2securITy job board.

If you or your organisation is hiring and are looking for a talented and enthusiastic candidate (perhaps at the start of their career) or maybe you are looking for someone experienced and are having a hard time finding candidates... then advertise here.

Happy Birthday!

Believe it or not, today the in2securITy blog is celebrating its first birthday. 365 days have passed since we threw this thing out on the internet to see what would happen.

Our first year - what have we achieved?

  • Community Web Portal and Online Media (www.in2security.org.nz)
  • New Zealand Information Security Workforce Development Strategy
  • Information Security Awareness National Tour
    (Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton)
  • The in2securITy YouTube Channel now contains 15 videos varying between 25 minutes and an hour in length.
  • National Mentoring Scheme
