The one and only Hacker conference in New Zealand is back for its 6th year - 17/18 November 2012

What is Kiwicon?

Pinched from the KIWICON website.

Kiwicon is the fourth (or fifth - we couldn't stay sober enough at Brightstar to rate it accurately) best technical computer security conference in the Australia-Pacific region but remains triumphant as New Zealand's best (only) hacker conference. Organised by a masochistic cabal of the security community, Kiwicon attempts to bring together the commercial infosec industry, academics, students, and hobbyist hackers to discover the new, the interesting, and technologically crackin'. Nostalgia is also permitted within the clearly marked areas, or a 10 metres around metlstorm and pipes' centres of gravity .

First run in 2007, by now Kiwicon has gained reputation, size, and an extra cleaning run for the men's toilets. Attendance in 2011 was around 600 people (although we do not claim all of them are paying attention) plus 30 or so speakers, staff and crue.
-- End Quote --

In short, KIWICON is the biggest gathering of hackers and security professionals in the country. Last year over 600 people gathered for two days of talks from speakers from a range of security disciplines and countries.

Who should attend?

Anyone can attend but you will get the most out of it if you are technically minded, have a good sense of humour and can handle a room with 600 hackers in it ;)

The range of talks and subjects tends to be extensive but be prepared for a fast paced, shell code on screen sort of affair.

Note: This is not a suit and tie/linkedin sort of a conference... please read around the website to get a feel for what we mean here.

What can I do there?

Kiwicon's lineup hasn't been fully announced yet but previous years have included:

* Talks
* Capture the Flag competitions
* Lock Picking workshops and competitions
* Socialising and networking

In2securITy will also be running FREE training workshops on Friday 16th November - details and venue to follow.

First Time?

So you would like to go along to KIWICON but:

* You don't know anyone?
* You want to share accomodation to cut costs?
* You find the whole thing a bit daunting?

In2securITy will have representatives available all weekend to help you get the most from your KIWICON experience.

We will also be helping you spot good accomodation/flight offers and keep track of key deadlines.

If its your first time or you are going alone and want to meet some other people in your situation - we will help with that too.

KIWICON is the best value conference, networking and training event we have in New Zealand and we want to help you get the most from it.
