Getting involved as a security professional

Remember back to when you started out in your career... for some of us that's quite a long time ago.

For most of us, getting our first job in security wasn't a fluke, years of hard work, study and practice went into getting the skills and experience required to get where we are now.

Some of us were even lucky enough to have a more experienced person act as a guide - a mentor of sorts. These mentors had earned their own stripes over the years before. Filled with war stories and lessons learned, these people offered us an (often brutally honest) perspective on our development needs - pushing us to get better and try harder, to challenge ourselves.

There comes a time when we move from being in need of a mentor to being able to mentor and guide the next generation.

Whether as a writer or site contributor, a mentor or a speaker - you can help guide the next generation of security professionals. Your experience has equipped you with all you need to help bring out the talents of those new in the field.

Being involved in in2securITy is a great idea on both a personal and professional level. Professionally, in2securITy can offer experience in public speaking, writing and guiding others - all great skills to develop and aid your career plans.

On a personal note, you will be working with some of the most enthusiastic and talented new and experienced people in the New Zealand IT security community - a great way to grow your network of contacts even further.
